ORICO BookDrive P10Plus Review: Magnetic 1TB SSD Adds Storage and Charging

The BookDrive P10Plus pairs a magnetic 1TB SSD with 100W passthrough charging. Its short cable suits phones, while sustained transfer speeds can dip.

ORICO BookDrive P10Plus Review: Magnetic 1TB SSD Adds Storage and Charging

The ORICO BookDrive P10Plus makes the most sense when you need extra phone storage and want to keep the phone charging during a long session. Its magnetic mount keeps the drive tucked behind a compatible phone, and a second USB-C port passes through up to 100W of power. In testing, its USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection reached the expected speeds on an iPhone and a Windows PC, though performance can fall during long transfers.

That combination gives the P10Plus a more specific role than a basic portable SSD. ORICO has also made accessories such as the folder-shaped iFolder Go SSD and an 8-in-1 USB-C hub. The P10Plus takes a different route: it combines storage with a magnetic attachment and a separate charging connection. I used the 1TB model to see how those features work together in everyday use.

The 1TB version is listed at $149.99 shipped, while the 512GB model is $79.99 shipped. ORICO also sells the P10Pro in 512GB and 1TB capacities; that model adds an SD/TF card reader and another Type-C port. Those extra connections may suit people handling cards as part of their workflow, while the P10Plus keeps the feature set focused on storage and charging.

A magnetic SSD that stays attached

The P10Plus attaches magnetically to compatible phones, including iPhones with a compatible magnetic setup. Connect it with the included short USB-C cable and the SSD sits against the back of the phone, instead of hanging from its port. ORICO includes two adhesive magnetic rings for cases or devices without built-in magnets. In my use, the attachment felt secure enough for ordinary handling.

The enclosure is aluminum alloy, giving it a more substantial feel than the plastic shells found on some portable drives. It is larger than ORICO’s K20 Mini, but the additional size has a practical explanation: the P10Plus also houses charging hardware. That trade-off is likely to matter most to people who plan to keep the drive attached while using a phone, rather than those looking for the smallest possible storage accessory.

Charging while storage stays connected

The second USB-C port is the feature that makes this more than a magnetic drive. It supports up to 100W PD passthrough, letting you connect a charger or power bank while the SSD remains plugged into the host device. That setup can help during extended photo and video sessions, or when moving large files and you don’t want the phone or computer to run down mid-task. Tablets and laptops with limited ports can also benefit from the extra power connection.

There’s a clear limit to that convenience: the passthrough port carries power only. It doesn’t add another data connection, so the P10Plus can’t double as a small USB-C hub for peripherals. If you need card readers or multiple data ports, the P10Pro’s added connections may be more relevant.

Fast everyday transfers, with a sustained-load caveat

ORICO specifies a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface and transfer speeds up to 1,000MB/s. Testing on an iPhone and Windows PC reached that stated level. For typical file transfers and working on projects stored on the drive, that speed should be ample; the P10Plus is a capable 10Gb/s portable SSD, even if maximum throughput isn’t its main distinction.

Performance can dip during long, continuous transfers. That didn’t get in the way of ordinary use, but it’s relevant if your routine involves writing hundreds of gigabytes in one session or repeatedly moving large files. It may also become a constraint when recording video directly to the SSD from a compatible phone. The reported peak speed, then, doesn’t tell the whole story for workloads that keep the drive writing for a long time.

The cable works best with a phone

The included USB-C cable is about 13cm long. That compact reach keeps the cable tidy when the drive is mounted on a phone, where a longer lead could hang awkwardly from the bottom. With a laptop, the same length can be less forgiving: the fit depends on where its USB-C port sits. The included magnetic rings let you attach the SSD to a notebook lid, but they don’t solve a tight cable reach.

The P10Plus is a practical fit for people who regularly shoot video on an iPhone, move large files from a phone, or use a tablet or laptop with few open ports. Its magnetic mounting keeps storage close to the device, and passthrough charging means a long transfer or recording session doesn’t have to use up the host’s remaining battery. Those features carry more weight here than chasing the highest possible SSD speed.

At $149.99 for 1TB, the P10Plus costs $70 more than the 512GB version. Buyers who need sustained high write speeds should keep the performance drop under long transfers in mind. For a phone-centered setup where magnetic attachment and charging matter, the mix is the appeal: useful storage within reach, power connected at the same time, and a short cable that keeps the arrangement neat.
