The new Apple TV 4K pairs a findable Siri Remote with support for four HomePods, but its $299 starting price is a steep jump.

Apple TV 4K (2026) adds a remote finder and HomePod surround sound for $299

The Apple TV 4K (2026) makes its biggest case for a higher price through two practical changes: a Siri Remote that can help you find it, and surround sound using as many as four HomePod speakers. It also adds the A19 processor and Siri AI features that can draw on personal context from a connected iPhone. The catch is the price: one model costs $299 / £299 / AU$449.

That’s a substantial step up from the previous range. Earlier in 2026, Apple’s price increases had put the Apple TV 4K without Ethernet at $199 / £199 / AU$299, and the Ethernet model at $249 / £249 / AU$399. The 2026 model replaces those versions with a single configuration. Apple is taking preorders from October 13, 2026, with shipping beginning November 13, 2026.

A remote that can answer when it goes missing

The fourth-generation Siri Remote adds a built-in sound that helps locate it. Ask, “Hey Siri, where’s my remote?” and the Apple TV 4K’s built-in microphones can hear the request and prompt the remote to chirp. Apple hasn’t specified the sound’s volume, but it says it should be audible when the remote is buried in couch cushions or lost among other things on the floor.

Owners of an iPhone 17 or newer, iPhone Air, or iPhone Duo can also open Find My, select Devices, and use Precision Finding to get help locating the remote. That gives the finder two ways to narrow the search: follow the sound or use a compatible iPhone.

The remote works with the Apple TV HD and earlier Apple TV 4K models, so the finder features don’t require buying the new box. Apple hasn’t confirmed the updated remote’s price. For comparison, the current Siri Remote costs $59 / £59 / AU$89.

Four HomePods can form a surround setup

The other major change is support for up to four HomePod speakers as a surround system. Possible combinations include four HomePod mini second-generation speakers, four second-generation HomePods, or a pair of each. The first-generation HomePod isn’t supported, which matters for owners hoping to reuse an older speaker.

A demonstration using two second-generation HomePods by the TV and two HomePod mini second-generation speakers behind a couch played a short scene from Widow’s Bay, which streams on Apple TV. The expanded arrangement sounded wider than a pair of HomePods alone, with the extra speakers helping the scene move from quieter passages to a more energetic mix. It also gave the low and high ends room to stand out.

That setup comes with a considerable equipment bill. The Apple TV 4K and four HomePod mini second-generation speakers total $895 / £895 / AU$1,365. Four second-generation HomePods with the box cost $1,695 / £1,695 / AU$2,645. Mixing two of each speaker type brings the total to $1,295 / £1,295 / AU$2,005.

Those totals make the new audio feature most appealing to people already building a HomePod setup. The listening demonstration suggests that four speakers can create a broader presentation, but owners of older HomePods can’t simply add the new box and expect their existing first-generation speakers to work in this arrangement.

A faster box with personal-context Siri

Apple says the A19 processor should make the new model faster, including quicker app launches, and give it more room to handle future features. The source doesn’t include performance figures or a direct speed comparison, so the practical gain will need to be judged in everyday use.

Siri AI is available at launch in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Singapore, and South Africa. It can answer questions that refer to personal context on a connected iPhone. For example, a user could ask which Star Wars Rebels episode they discussed with Max, or ask Siri to find a show Benjie recommended in a group chat. In a demonstration, Siri found an episode of Ted Lasso quickly.

Who should consider the $299 model?

At $299 / £299 / AU$449, the Apple TV 4K costs as much as Apple’s new HomeView, a product that includes a screen and speakers. It also sits well above the prices listed for the previous Apple TV 4K models and costs more than competing Roku players and Fire TV Sticks, though the article provides no specific rival model prices for a direct comparison.

The new remote is the upgrade with the broadest reach: current owners of compatible older Apple TV models can use it too, once its price is confirmed. The four-speaker surround option is a more involved reason to buy, since it calls for a compatible combination of HomePods and can push the total cost far beyond the streaming box alone. Siri’s personal-context search and the A19 chip add to the package, but their value depends on how often buyers use those features.

Apple has retired the previous models, so anyone weighing the new box against its predecessors may need to look for discounted remaining stock. Those older models could be worth considering at a lower price. The new Apple TV 4K looks like a premium streaming device; whether its sound system, remote finder, and Siri features justify the jump will depend on which of them buyers will actually use.
