Xreal’s Aura puts a wide virtual display and spatial computing features into glasses weighing under 95 grams. Preorders are open at Xreal’s online store for $1,099, a limited-time $180 reduction from the $1,279 retail price. The company says orders are scheduled to ship in mid-November.

The Aura is the first wired smart glasses to run Google’s Android XR operating system. Xreal developed the device with Google and Qualcomm, pairing Android XR with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform. The price and tethered design make this a substantial purchase, but the product’s pitch is clear: bring experiences usually associated with a headset to a glasses form factor.

A virtual screen with spatial controls

Two Sony Micro-OLED displays create a virtual image with a 70-degree field of view. Each eye gets 1,920 × 1,200 pixels, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak brightness of up to 1,050 nits. Those figures describe the display hardware; the source provides no hands-on assessment of image quality, comfort or performance.

The Aura’s glasses weigh under 95 grams, while a separate puck holds the battery and handles most of the computing needed for spatial experiences. That puck is central to how the system works: the glasses connect to it rather than operating as a fully wireless device. Xreal’s design trades the freedom of untethered use for a glasses-style display backed by a separate computing unit.

Users can control the glasses with voice and hand movements, using onboard sensors and cameras. Keyboard, trackpad and game controller input are supported too. Electrochromic dimming provides five transparency levels, and the hardware includes Bose audio and four microphones. The range of input options could make the Aura useful across different tasks, though the source doesn’t explain how each control method works in practice.

Apps, photos and immersive video

Xreal says the Aura is intended for productivity, entertainment and XR experiences. Its Android XR software brings access to the Android ecosystem, and Gemini support lets users ask questions about their surroundings or carry out tasks across apps. Those are stated capabilities; how well they work will depend on the software and the experiences available to users.

Google Photos and Android XR can turn existing photos and videos into 3D views. Panoramic images can become 360-degree scenes, while Google Maps offers immersive 3D destination views, including aerial imagery and Street View. YouTube will support 360-degree and VR180 video.

This gives the Aura a mix of familiar screen viewing and more spatial content. Xreal’s earlier glasses are known for projecting a large virtual display into the wearer’s view; the Aura adds the ability to place apps and experiences into the surrounding space. The source describes transparent lenses and says the glasses don’t block peripheral vision in the way a headset can, but offers no independent comfort or visibility testing.

More than 150 experiences at launch

Xreal says more than 150 XR experiences will be available at launch, with additional options expected in the months after. The named selection includes the NBA App for Android XR, Fallout: Factions, the mixed-reality adventure Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, NASCAR XR, Oh My Galaxy!, XR HoloMedicine and Simply Piano XR.

That list spans games, entertainment, medical and music experiences. The range suggests Android XR is meant to serve several uses from the start, although the article doesn’t give details on how the individual apps run or which features require specific accessories.

Price and alternatives

The Aura is available to preorder exclusively through Xreal’s online store. Its listed retail price is $1,279, with a limited-time preorder price of $1,099. Xreal says deliveries are scheduled for mid-November.

The article also names Snap’s Specs AR glasses and Meta’s recently announced VR glasses as products in the emerging spatial computing category. Snap’s Specs are described as fully wireless, with a chunky design and a $2,195 price. Meta’s model is listed at $1,299 and is scheduled to arrive in spring 2027. These are different approaches: Snap’s glasses are wireless, while Xreal’s Aura relies on a puck; Meta’s device has a later release window.

For buyers, the main question is whether Android XR apps and spatial viewing justify the Aura’s $1,099 preorder price and wired setup. Its display resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, multiple input options and promised app library set out an ambitious feature mix. Comfort, image quality and the day-to-day value of those experiences will be clearer once the glasses ship.
