Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: Bigger Battery, Brighter Screen and 40-Meter Dive Rating

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 focuses on the original Ultra’s most persistent drawback: how often it needed a charge. Samsung has fitted an 800mAh battery into a slimmer body, added fast charging and kept the watch aimed at people who spend time outdoors. The screen is rated for up to 5,000 nits, and its diving features track activity down to 40 meters. In the Philippines, the LTE model costs PhP44,990.

Battery life gets the biggest change

The first Galaxy Watch Ultra had a 590mAh battery. Owner reviews often criticized how frequently it needed charging, a frustration that stood out on a premium watch. The Ultra 2 raises capacity to 800mAh, a 35 percent increase, even as Samsung makes the case slimmer than before.

Samsung rates the watch for up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled, or up to 80 hours with it off. Those are company estimates, so actual endurance will depend on settings and use. GSMArena recorded 96 hours in its testing, which included heart-rate logging every ten minutes, overnight sleep tracking, two gym sessions and two hour-long GPS rides. That result gives a useful example of how the watch performed under that specific mix of tasks, rather than a guarantee for every wearer.

Charging gets an upgrade, too: the Ultra 2 is the first Galaxy Watch with fast charging. Samsung says it can reach 40 percent in about 30 minutes. That makes a short charging window more useful, whether you remember to plug the watch in before getting ready or need to top it up before heading out. The central trade-off remains familiar: longer endurance is valuable, but the result will vary with how often you use GPS, health tracking and the always-on screen.

A display built for bright conditions

The 1.52-inch OLED display has a resolution of 498 by 498 pixels, and Samsung rates peak brightness at up to 5,000 nits. That figure is meant to address a straightforward outdoor problem: sunlight can make a watch face difficult to read just when you may need to check a route, workout or notification.

At that rated brightness, Samsung says the display can also work as a flashlight. The practical draw is the same in both cases: a screen designed to remain visible in demanding light. The source doesn't provide a side-by-side brightness measurement against the first Ultra, so the figure is best read as the Ultra 2’s stated peak specification.

Outdoor tools include diving and route guidance

The Ultra 2 is differentiated from a standard Galaxy Watch through its durability ratings and activity features. Samsung lists IP69K and 10ATM ratings, EN13319 diving instrument certification and MIL-STD-810H. For diving, it tracks depth, elapsed dive time and water temperature in real time, down to 40 meters.

Its dedicated activity modes cover trail running, cycling and diving. The watch can also follow an imported GPX route from a phone without needing a signal along the course. Dual-band GPS uses L1 and L5, a setup intended to improve location tracking in places such as tree cover. The raised Quick Button has orange accents, making it easier to locate and press while wearing gloves.

These features will matter most to people who regularly use route tracking or take part in outdoor activities. For someone who mainly checks messages and records everyday exercise, the added durability and dive tools may be features they rarely use. Battery life, screen visibility and the fit may be more relevant day to day.

A new processor and more storage

The Ultra 2 is the first Galaxy Watch to use Qualcomm silicon. Its Snapdragon Wear Elite chip has five cores, with Samsung promising 32 percent more CPU performance and 19 percent more GPU performance. Samsung also points to better GPS accuracy under tree cover. The watch pairs the chip with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, twice the original Ultra’s base storage.

It runs WearOS 7, with access to the Google Play Store, alongside Samsung’s health features for blood pressure, ECG and body composition. Google Play compatibility also means the reviewer can use watch faces through the Facer app. The new processor and larger storage make for a stronger hardware package, though the source provides no application speed tests or battery comparison that would show how much the chip changes everyday use.

Price, fit and who should consider it

In the Philippines, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 comes in Titanium Gray and Titanium Silver, with LTE, for PhP44,990 from Samsung. That puts it firmly in premium-watch territory. Buyers who chiefly want notifications and basic fitness tracking can get those functions from a standard Galaxy Watch for less. The Ultra 2’s case for its price rests on endurance, outdoor readability, navigation and durability features.

The 47mm titanium case is also a fit question. It may feel and look quite different from a 41mm watch, and photos can't tell you how its cushion-shaped design sits on your wrist. Samsung Stores at SM Cyberzone offer a chance to try it on and judge the size, weight and fit in person. Buyers considering a watch they expect to wear every day should give that decision as much attention as the specifications.

The Ultra 2 looks like a focused response to the first model’s battery complaint, with faster charging and a slimmer case rounding out the change. Its strongest case is for people who will use the brighter screen and outdoor tracking along with the longer battery life. For everyone else, the main question is whether those upgrades justify paying PhP44,990 for a 47mm watch.
